Kinetic Facade

Wind-driven - no motors or power needed

A kinetic facade is made of lightweight metal elements — discs, squares or flaps — mounted on pivots so they move freely with the wind. As they swing, they reflect light and sky in constantly shifting patterns, so the building appears to move and breathe without motors or power.

Why choose a kinetic facade?

A building that moves

Waves of motion stop people in their tracks and make the building unforgettable.

Zero running cost

Powered entirely by wind — no motors, controls or electricity.

Light and sky in motion

Each element flashes sunlight and reflects the sky as it swings.

Brand theatre

A facade people film and share, driving footfall and recall.

How does a kinetic facade work?

Grid

Stainless cables or rods are tensioned across a frame on the building.

Pivot

Each element hangs on a pin or ring so it swings freely.

Wind

Even a light breeze sets thousands of elements moving in waves.

Types, materials & finishes

Disc kinetic

Round elements for a soft, rippling effect.

Pixel kinetic

Square elements for a crisp, digital look.

Two-tone kinetic

Different finish on each side — the facade flips colour as it moves.

Kinetic + static

Moving zones combined with fixed coins.

Does a kinetic facade need electricity or motors?

No. Our kinetic facades are moved purely by wind. Motorised systems exist but cost more to install and maintain — ask us if you want to explore one.

The elements rest still and the facade reads as a textured metallic surface. Sunlight still plays across it, and even a light breeze starts the movement again.

Elements are small, light and secured with stainless steel pivots, and the system is engineered for the site’s design wind speed. We also assess how exposed each elevation is.

Because elements move continuously, plan periodic inspections of pivots and fixings. Individual elements can be replaced without disturbing the rest.

Kinetic elements pivot freely for big, flowing movement. Sequins overlap like scales for texture and shimmer, with little or no motion.
