Blox Facade

Projecting metal blocks at varying depths

A blox facade is cladding made of three-dimensional metal boxes ("blocks") fixed to a sub-frame so they project from the wall at different depths. The varying projections cast strong shadows and create a pixelated, sculpted relief — so a flat elevation gains depth, rhythm and a distinctive 3D identity.

Why choose a blox facade?

Real depth, not printed

Blocks physically project from the wall, so the facade has genuine depth that changes as the sun moves.

A signature elevation

Stepped or pixel patterns give even a simple box building a memorable, sculptural identity.

Pattern you control

Set the depth of every block to form gradients, waves, logos or abstract artwork.

Modular & serviceable

Each block is a separate module, so one can be removed or replaced without disturbing the rest.

How does a blox facade work?

Map

We turn your design into a depth map, assigning every block a size and projection.

Fold

Blocks are CNC-cut, folded into closed boxes, coded and finished.

Fix

Blocks are fixed to an aluminium channel grid at their set depths, block by block.

Types, materials & finishes

Uniform blox

Equal blocks and depths for a calm, ordered grid.

Stepped blox

Depths step in or out for a terraced relief.

Gradient blox

Projection grows across the wall for a wave or fade.

Pixel blox

Block depths mapped from an image or logo.

How deep do the blocks project from the wall?

Projection is set block by block from the design. Shallow reliefs suit close viewing; deeper projections read from a distance. We finalise depths after checking viewing distances and wind loads.

Yes. We convert the artwork into a depth map, so each block’s projection forms the image through light and shadow.

They are hollow, folded aluminium boxes with stiffening returns — light enough to keep dead load low but rigid enough to hold their shape.

We detail block tops with a slight slope and drainage gaps so rainwater runs off. Bird deterrent detailing can be added on ledges where needed.

It uses more material because of the projecting sides, so the sub-frame is designed for the extra load. It remains much lighter than stone or concrete relief.
